Playboy - the well-known men's and lifestyle magazine celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1978. On the occasion of the anniversary, the manufacturer Bally designed and produced a pinball machine, which is still the most successful Playboy pinball machine from various manufacturers. On the back glass Hugh Hefner is pictured with Patti McGuire and Sondra Theodore, two of his Playmates. The pinball machine was designed by Jim Patla. The artistic design was done by Paul Faris. The artist implemented all typical features of the magazine and the corresponding lifestyle in the design of the pinball machine down to the last detail. For example there are targets on which the faces of different Playmates are shown and on some targets you can find the typical Playboy Bunny symbol. Also the sound is perfectly tuned to the pinball machine, the player can hear for example the famous Playboy whistle. The playing surface convinces with three pop bumpers, two slingshots, six standup targets, a 5-bank drop target and an upper left kickback lane. Just like the magazine, the pinball machine was very popular and over 18.000 Playboy pinball machines were sold.
