The Taxi Flipper is a machine that is not dedicated to any celebrity, film or event - but to New York taxi drivers. However, there are allusions to other pinball themes, for example the "PinBot" is one of the passengers. Other passengers include Marilyn Monroe (or Lola), Michael Gorbachev, Santa Claus and Dracula.
But attention: Taxi is not equal to taxi! In the original edition Marylin Monroe appeared as a passenger. However, the manufacturer Williams had simply forgotten to ask the Monroe family about the rights of use for the portrait of the then deceased Marylin. The family banned the production of the Marylin pinball machine and so they changed saddles. From now on the brunette Lola decorated the taxi Flipper. However, the ban did not come until the first batch had already left production for Europe. Around 200 vending machines made their way across the Atlantic and have been much sought after by collectors all over the world ever since.
The rules of pinball are relatively straightforward: The player is the taxi driver and has the task of getting his taxi full. He must pick up the already mentioned passengers by hitting certain targets and ramps.
In the back glass of the Flipper is a rear view mirror built in to make the taxi feeling perfect. So: Get in and fasten your seat belts - the taximeter is running!
